Battery recycling task force sets priorities for traceability and enforcement

China’s national EV battery recycling task force held its second meeting in Beijing on 28 May 2026. Chaired by Industry Minister Li Lecheng, the meeting reviewed progress in 2025 and set priorities for 2026 with representatives of member authorities.

The task force called for a long-term system to address increasing battery retirements and closer coordination on legislation, policy and standards to implement the national recycling action plan.

Enforcement priorities included unlawful transfers, non-compliant products made from waste batteries, traceability failures, illegal dismantling and unlicensed business. The meeting called for digital monitoring of battery movements alongside the joint campaign then under way.

Industry associations, major companies and research organisations were also urged to cooperate on equipment development, deployment and new business models.
