China’s new energy vehicle fleet reaches 43.97 million in 2025

China’s new energy vehicle fleet reached 43.97 million at the end of 2025, up by 12.57 million from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics bulletin released on 28 February 2026. Annual NEV production rose 25.1% to 16.524 million.

The bulletin recorded total motor vehicle production of 34.778 million, up 9.8%. NEV output therefore grew faster than overall vehicle production.

Output of related equipment also increased. China produced 5.745 million charging piles, up 11.0%, and 773,000 industrial robots, up 28.0%, in 2025.

The figures describe full-year production and the vehicle fleet at year-end, with the NEV stock measuring the registered fleet.
