SEVAL opens Italian battery recycling plant: following black-mass handovers
Progress on a European recycling project also needs to be read alongside its output arrangements. Downstream acceptance and data handovers matter once black mass leaves the processing line.
Plant inauguration and investment scope
SEVAL’s 7 September announcement records the inauguration of its Colico battery recycling plant on 5 September 2026. The company describes a multi-site investment programme exceeding EUR 30 million, using Duesenfeld technology and targeting black-mass production. The amount covers the programme, rather than one plant’s equipment purchases.
Engineering perspective: agree the destination first
In recycling project design, a processing line needs a workable destination for its output. One approach is to agree downstream acceptance conditions first, then establish the sorting, sampling and storage arrangements required upstream. A shared material name does not make acceptance criteria interchangeable between projects. Discussions can cover sampling methods, batch definitions, packaging, handovers and the handling of quality disputes. The parties need to set inspection items and limits for their own processes; this article assigns none to the SEVAL project. Defining these interfaces early can reduce redesign when a completed line’s output does not match the recipient’s requirements.
Follow the project and the return of processing data
When following European projects, an inauguration is a construction milestone. Stable operation, output deliveries and downstream treatment results should be tracked separately because they answer different questions. Public opening records establish a visible project stage; sustained processing and delivery need operating evidence. For engineering records, teams can link incoming batches, separated outputs and downstream receipt batches, then agree how later treatment data will be returned. This supports both physical traceability and the connection of records across process stages. Our related articles address EU recovery targets and accounting methods; individual projects still need to check which requirements apply to them.
